Aegean Open Championship 2019

(9-17 July 2019, Agios Kirykos, Ikaria island, GREECE)


Venue:
Athletic Center of Agios Kirykos, Ikaria island , Greece.

Dates: 9-17 July 2019.

Groups:  
There will be two (2) groups (playing two separate tournaments)

Group A: Players with FIDE rating ≥ 1500 (FIDE list July 2019)
Group B: Players with FIDE rating ≤ 1700 (FIDE list July 2019)

Players with FIDE rating between 1500 and 1700 may choose the group they prefer.
Participants born after 1/1/2007 having FIDE rating ≥ 1400 and veterans (S65) having FIDE rating ≤ 1500 hold the right to choose the group they prefer.
The organization committee holds the right, in special cases, to accept participants with FIDE rating ≤ 1500 to play in Group A.

Playing System:
Nine (9) Rounds Swiss for Group A, Seven (7) Rounds Swiss for Group B. FIDE rules apply.

Rate of play:
Ninety (90) minutes plus 30 seconds per move (from move 1) for the completion of the game for each player. Players that do not show up for their game after one (1) hour from the official start of a round are be forfeited.

2nd Round: Wednesday  10/7, 7.00 p.m.
3nd Round: Thursday      11/7, 7.00 p.m.
4rd Round: Friday           12/7, 7.00 p.m.
5th Round: Saturday       13/7, 7.00 p.m.
6th Round: Sunday          14/7, 7.00 p.m. (No games for Group B)
7th Round: Monday         15/7, 7.00 p.m.
8th Round: Tuesday        16/7, 7.00 p.m.
9th Round: Wednesday    17/7, 11.00 a.m. (No games for Group B)
Prize Giving: Wednesday 17/7, 4.00 p.m.

Departure from Ikaria:
Wednesday 17/7, at 23:30 p.m. from Evdilos (arrival at Piraeus at 5.40 a.m.)

1. Bucholtz
2. Median Bucholtz
3. Number of wins
4. Sum of progressive scores

The prizes will be € 3000 in total and will be shared as follows:

Important Note 1: The female and veteran players, who are eligible for two money-prizes (general standings and special category), receive both prizes, one from the general standings and one from the special category. Cup prizes and medals will be awarded to all winners of the tournament (general standings, ladies, veterans). Medals will also be awarded to the three best juniors and girls in the categories below 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 08 years of age.

Important Note 2: The money-prizes are divided according to the Hort system among the players with the same final score. (With Hort system every player gets first 50% of the prizes according to his rank. The other 50% are distributed uniformly within a scoregroup over the players).

Winners of the Aegean Championship:
The first Greek male and female chess players/members of chess clubs in the Aegean region- in Group A will be declared the Man and Woman Aegean Champion 2019 respectively.

Entry Fee:
The entry fee for Group A of the Aegean Open Championship 2019 is € 60 (for players below 20 years of age and Members of chess clubs in the Aegean region € 40), while for Group B the entry fee is set at  € 40 for players below 20 years of age and members of chess clubs in the Aegean region € 30)
This fee does not apply to holders of international titles (GM, IM, FM, WGM, WIM, WFM), chess-players that have already qualified, members of the Ikaria Chess Club and Ikarian chess-players regardless of the club they belong to.

Rapid/Blitz Tournaments and other parallel events of "Ikaros" 2019:
Rapid tournaments, blitz and rapid events (for veterans, ladies and juniors) and other parallel events (blind rapid, problem solving etc.) will be held prior (6-8 July) as well as during the main tournament. The schedule of these events and further details will be announced in a complementary announcement.

Participation Fees:  
As all previous years, the organization committee of Ikaros International Chess Tournament will offer special prices for all participants. The special package offer includes:
1. Accommodation costs (the board (food) expenses, meals, breakfast etc are NOT included)
2. Free entry to the tournament (No entry fee).
3. Transportation (by bus) from the Therma and Aghios Kirykos (i.e. the places where participants reside during the tournament) to the playing venue 30 minutes prior the beginning of each round.
4. Transportation (by bus) from and to the port of Evdilos at the day of the scheduled arrival (9/7) and departure (17/7) of the group of chess players from Ikaria in case this is necessary due to the ferry schedule.

Depending on the room type, the price of the special discount offer for the period from the 9th until the 17th of July is set at:
Double Room: € 200 per person, Triple Room: € 180 per person, 4 bed room: € 160 per person

For families (at least 3 members), four-member (at least) club teams, junior players under the age of 20, natives of the Aegean region, unemployed persons (bearing a valid unemployment card) and persons with disabilities the price of the special discount offer for the period from the 16th until the 22nd of July is set at:
Double Room: € 175 per person, Triple Room: € 160 per person, 4 bed room: € 145 per person

Players requesting for some special room conditions or wish to spend some extra days in Ikaria should notify the organizers in advance. Additional fees will be charged according to the conditions requested.

For the participants who will pay in advance (until Tuesday 18th of June 2019) the special price for the period 9th till 17th of July is reduced by € 10 per person (based on the room type and the discount category of the participant).

The amount due should be deposited through bank transfer to one of the following accounts:

a) Piraeus Bank with IBAN: GR88 0171 1500 0061 5012 6987 025 (SWIFT CODE (BIC) PIRBGRAA) in the name of  Skakistikos Omilos Ikarias (Ikaria Chess Club) or

Participants should send a copy of their deposit receipt (which should include the name of the participant) to the organization committee by e-mail at ikaroschess2019@gmail.com prior the tournament. Note: Any deposit/transfer fees applied by the banks should be paid by the participants

Note: The above prices apply for the participants in both groups and also for the accompanying persons, regardless whether they participate in the tournament or not.

Conditions to GMs/WGMs, and IMs/WIMs:
For a limited number of titled players (GMs/WGMs, the IMs/WIMs), and the players that have qualified from preliminary events, the organization committee covers for:

1. Accommodation costs (in double room, the board (food) expenses, meals, breakfast etc are NOT included) for the period 9th till 17th of July
2. Free entry to the tournament (No entry fee).
3. Transportation (by bus) from Therma and Aghios Kirykos (i.e. the places where participants reside during the tournament) to the playing venue 30 minutes prior the beginning of each round.
4. Transportation (by bus) from and to the port of Evdilos at the day of the scheduled arrival (9/7) and departure (17/7) of the group of chess players from Ikaria in case this is necessary due to the ferry schedule.
5. Additionally GMs and WGMs will receive pocket money to cover for their daily expenses as follows (based on FIDE rating list of July 2019): Elo 2300-2399: € 100, Elo 2400-2499: € 140, Elo 2500-2599: € 210, Elo 2600 and above: € 280

Transportation to Ikaria:
Ikaria can be reached either by ferry (from Piraeus, Mykonos or Samos) or by plane (from Athens, Thessaloniki and Heraklion). For details check with your travel agent or contact the organization committee for additional info.
